Seeking Upstream Solutions
A woman was walking along a river and was astonished to see many women struggling in the water. She saw some people pulling the drowning women out of the river. The woman thought for a moment, then she ran upstream to find out why the women were falling in the water in the first place — and to do something about it. ~ Source unknown
Merle Chambers Fund has sunset and is closed as of December 2024. For 40 years, Chambers Fund identified barriers and invested in policy and systems change to create fair opportunities for people to reach their full potential, particularly those who are unfairly disadvantaged or vulnerable to life's circumstances.
LEARN ABOUT USWe implemented an engaged funder model, working closely with our grantees and other funders, together using innovative approaches and informed risks to lead to broad-reaching change.
OUR STRATEGYChambers Fund spent four decades working to ensure that more people — particularly those most impacted by economic, social, and political injustice — had a better chance to reach their full potential.
In 2020, the Chambers Fund Board of Directors voted to spend-down and significantly increased the foundation’s investment in equity, democracy, and women’s economic security. That decision was part of a broader philanthropic endeavor fueled by a heightened commitment in these two areas by both Merle Chambers, personally, and Chambers Fund.
Although bittersweet, we can now say that as of December 31, 2024, Merle Chambers Fund and Chambers Initiative have sunset, having completed the spend-down. We are grateful to all of our grantee partners for trusting us over the years to support your vital work in Colorado and beyond.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
